Speak the lingo

Glossary

Words you'll see across the site. New to Dirt Late Model racing? Start here.

Late Model
A category of dirt racing cars built around a tubular space frame with a powerful crate or open engine. The premier division on most dirt ovals.
Super Late Model
The top tier — open engine, fully built. Big purses, big-name drivers. The "Cup Series" of Dirt Late Models.
Crate Late Model
Sealed-engine division. Cheaper to run than Supers, so fields are deeper. Mostly 604 or 602 crate engines.
Limited Late Model
Restricted-engine class — somewhere between Crate and Super. Rules vary by sanctioning body.
Sportsman
An entry-level late model class with restricted rules and lower purses. Where many drivers cut their teeth before moving up.
Heat Race
A short qualifying race that helps determine starting positions for the feature. Most race nights run several heats before the main event.
Feature
The main event — longer race, biggest payout. What you tune in to watch.
To Win
What the winner takes home. The dollar figure you see next to a race name (e.g. "$25,000 to win").
Sanctioning Body
The organization running a series — Lucas Oil, World of Outlaws, DIRTcar, etc. Sets the rules, schedules the races, pays the purses.
Touring Series
A series that moves between tracks (vs. a weekly track that runs the same place every week). The big nationals are all tours.
Open / Sealed Engine
"Open" = builders can modify it; "sealed" = factory-sealed crate, no internal mods allowed. Open engines are faster and far more expensive.
Driver Rankings
The leaderboards on /stats — sortable by wins, top-fives, earnings, and other metrics. Free to view. Filter by tier, timeframe, or region.
Grandstand Grade
A 1–10 rating you submit if you attended a race in person. A photo from the grandstand verifies you were there. Free account required.
Stream Score
A 1–10 rating of a streaming broadcast — production quality, commentary, camera work. Helps other fans pick which streams to pay for. Free account required.

Quick answers

Common Questions

Is the site free?
Most of it, yes. News, schedule, results, driver/track/series profiles, stats & rankings, and the streaming guide are all free with no account. A free account adds following, ratings, points, achievements, and notifications. PRO adds Head-to-Head Compare, the H2H and Tracks tabs on driver profiles, the Road Trip Builder, My Races / My Streams, PRO-only article categories (Money, The Pulse), and removes ads.
How do I follow my favorite driver?
You need a free account first. Then go to any driver's profile and click the Follow button. Same goes for tracks and series. Your followed entities show up on your profile and trigger notifications when they race.
What's a Grandstand Grade?
A 1–10 rating you submit if you attended a race in person. You upload a photo from the grandstand to verify you were there. Your grade joins everyone else's into a fan-verified quality score per race. Free account required.
What's the difference between a Grandstand Grade and a Stream Score?
Grandstand Grade is for fans who attended in person — photo-verified, rates the live experience. Stream Score is for fans who watched the broadcast — rates the production quality, commentary, and camera work. Both are 1–10 ratings from real fans, and they're separate because a great race can have a bad broadcast and vice versa.
Why do I need PRO for the Road Trip Builder?
The Road Trip Builder hits a distance-calculation service for every potential stop, which costs us per request. PRO covers the operating cost while letting us keep everything else free.
Are the stats and rankings really free?
Yes — the full stats and rankings page is free for everyone, including the Advanced view with extra filters. PRO unlocks deeper per-driver analysis (the H2H and Tracks tabs on driver profiles), not the leaderboards themselves.
Can I cancel PRO anytime?
Yes. Go to Billing to open the Stripe customer portal and cancel from there. You keep PRO access through the end of your current billing period.
What's the data source?
DLM is powered by TRACKSTATS, our data engine that ingests results from sanctioning bodies, tracks, and our own race-by-race coverage. If something looks wrong, let us know — we'll fix it.
I found a bug or have feedback.
Use the contact form. We read every message — we're a small team and your feedback shapes what we build next.
Will you cover more divisions / asphalt / sprints?
DLM is Dirt Late Model specific. Other divisions are out of scope — we'd rather be the best at one thing than mediocre at five. If you want sprints or modifieds, there are dedicated sites for those.

Still have questions? Get in touch — we read every message.
